Time management is extremely important if you are an internet marketer? If you sell services or use internet marketing to promote a product, service, website or blog, then proper time management is vital. The consequences of not doing so can be frustrating at best or expensive at worst.

Consequences of not managing your time

One obvious and extremely serious consequence is that you can fall behind with the work. An internet marketer has hundreds of ways to promote a product, website or service online. Examples are: content submission to article directories, advertising signature creation on message boards and posting, writing keyword optimized content, exchanging banners with other webmasters, etc. The sheer volume of work makes it easy to fall behind or even worse to forget. This can cause inconvenient and expensive delays.

Faulty time management can create a lack of organisation. One of the commonest causes of this is a lack of a schedule or a guide. Without a plan or guide it is easy to become distracted and then losing track of what is still be completed, what was the last task or what is to be done next. To avoid this use a-do list or detailed schedule to help manage your time. These tools help to promote an organised life and way of working.

Minimise overwhelm

There are many approaches to implement. To be successful as an internet marketer you should implement many different approaches. This will take time, but with some organisation it is achievable. However, it is important to have a good sense of time and management. Otherwise some tasks will absorb the majority of the available time with little or none left for others. A time schedule will help here. Assign a time scale to the tasks for the day. Use a best guess unless you have detailed information or experience. Then add 10% to account for the “buggeration” factor as it used to be called in the old work study days. Test you assumptions and adjust as necessary. However, do remember that if one task is given more time, that time must come from the allocation to another task. Experiment and test to find a schedule which works for you and above all be realistic.

It is difficult to get “back in the game”

Poor time management can produce a feeling of complete overwhelm. Once they reach this point it is the point of no return for many people. If you become overwhelmed, unorganised or fall behind, there may be an inclination to give up for the day. This should be avoided. Take a short break and regain your composure set out once more.

It is easy to become distracted

People who have a good sense of time management attempt to avoid distraction. Those with good time management skills discover ways to avoid or tune out distractions so they no longer become an issue. This is a skin which can be learned. If this is a skill you do not have, learn it. If not, there are many, many distractions which must be avoided.

The standard of work suffers

Without effective time management and problems with distractions it is likely that the standard of work will suffer. Unfortunately, this is a disadvantage of working from home. None work activities affect the standard and speed of work. Therefore it is important to eliminate all distractions. Ignore unexpected phone calls and visitors and ensure your non business contacts are aware that you are working between the hours of 9 to 5 or whatever schedule you choose.

You can lose money

One of life’s truisms is that “time is money.” This is true and crucial for internet marketing. The more time spent marketing and promoting your website, blog, product or service, the more your income potential will increase. So, if your time is not managed properly, you could well lose money.

Your business can be put at risk

If you are selling a service as an internet marketer, it is important to produce quick and effective results. Someone who wants their traffic or sales increased want it now, not in a few weeks or months. Therefore the quicker your tasks are completed the better. If you have an effective time management plan, the better the results you will produce. This can not only help your business to thrive but to nurture long-term clients.
